A Wonderful Evening in Oz

Wizard of Oz House 2015

This year, many travelers made their way to the Emerald City at the Albertson Halloween House.  Some 800 trick-or-treaters (plus their parents) followed the yellow brick road, passing Dorothy’s crashed house (there appears to have been a casualty by the feet sticking out), avoiding a spinning tornado, greeting the Scarecrow stuck in a cornfield, getting their treats within the shimmering green walls of the Emerald City, and interacting with the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Munchkins, Elphaba, Glinda, Dorothy, Auntie Em, the Wizard (behind the curtain version) and even Flying Monkeys!  Visitors quaked as they felt the power of the Great and Powerful Oz who commanded them to bring back the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West!  Here are some pictures from the evening.

This as last year is so inspiring. You truly give back to the community and have a lot of fun doing so.
    Thank you.

    Hello there.
We are a huge Halloween family in NY that stumbled across your Wizard of Oz Halloween theme from 2015. That is our theme this year. We don’t have the volume of kids you do (only about half), but still put on a themed production every year for the kiddos (Including live characters). I’m curious to know if you have the software or program you used for the wizard projection? If so, would you be willing to sell us a copy? We have not been able to find one even comparable to yours! I know this is a shot in the dark, but figured it would be worth a shot. We are not programmers to say the least.

From one Halloween Fanatic to another, Thank you for your time. And keep up the amazing experiences you give!

So excited to hear that you are doing Wizard of Oz this year! Regarding the projection of Oz, it was just a video I made that I ran on a loop and projected it on to some green tulle fabric (no programming required!). I can provide more information if you send an email to me. You can find the email address on the Contact page of the website. Looking forward to chatting more. Best regards, Eric.

    Hi Eric,

I am the main decorator for a local chamber of commerce’s annual dinner auction and this year’s theme is Wizard of Oz. I love the Wizard castle you made and I am curious as to how you did that? I am looking to basically cut it in half and have one side of the castle on one side of the stage and the other side on the other side of the stage. Does that make sense?

Hi Amanda, what a cool project! I wasn’t sure if you were talking about the big castle or the ‘throne’ where the Wizard is. If it is the big castle over the porch area of the house, I just got really tall cardboard and painted it green with some black lines and shadows to look like cylinders. For the ‘throne’ you can check out this blog post: https://www.albertzone.com/halloween/2015/11/the-great-and-powerful-oz/ That one uses cardboard tubes I got at a hardware store (from the department which sells AstroTurf and carpet). Perhaps that might help you with your project?
