With most of Oogie Boogie finished, it now came time to figure out how to add him to the scene. We had thought of several different places to put him, but ultimately decided to use a trick we tried in the past – have him sticking out of the hedge (we did this for the Jurassic park dinosaur). This meant that we didn’t have to build the entire body – just half of it!
I started from the body shape that I had previously created.
And after holding it up to the hedge and figuring out where I needed to cut it so that it looked like it was coming out, I cut the body fabric.
I then sewed the opening shut and filled it with stuffing. From there I inserted some garden stakes into the head and arm and slid Oogie into the hedge. I then added some more fabric and his head, shaping it in place.
