For the Wall-E portion of the display, I wanted to have not only a Wall-E, but also Eve. This was a big challenge, as Eve’s design is very rounded and smooth – very tricky to replicate with Styrofoam and cardboard. I looked at several tutorials online, but they all seemed too complicated or required equipment I didn’t have. So, I build Eve from a trashcan.
I had purchased a plastic kitchen trashcan several years ago, when I was going to make Samurai armor out of it. 🙂 The profile at the top of the can was very similar to that of Eve’s neck, so the can was re-allocated to become the body of Eve.
I cut the sides of the can for Eve’s arms.
I then, cut the can more and glued/attached a 12″ Styrofoam hemisphere at the bottom.
For the head, I decided to use what I learned last year about making curved shapes out of flexible floor mat foam. I used a large metal bowl as my pattern.
I covered half of the bowl with foil.
Then, I covered that with duct tape and drew out the pattern lines.
Using that pattern, I cut our pieces from the floor mat foam.
I glued foam to the insides of the arms and had all the pieces I needed.
I then used a sturdy cardboard tube as the neck/spinal cord of Eve to connect the head to the body (sorry, folks, I wasn’t able to make the head just float like Eve’s does in the movie.)
After that, we gave Eve a paint job.
I suspended her using ropes so that she was in her flying position…
…and she was ready to go to defend her friend, Wall-E!
